The 07’ National league all-stars came into Saturday hitting .435, 51 homers, and 149 rbi’s combined.  They have led the way in inter-league matches with an 8-4 record.  The NL won the Fun-star game and the homerun derby.  The All-stars were just looking complete the trifecta.

The AL team had only 5 stars show up for the show down; Mike Downs, Andy Ross, AJ Tate, Matt Kirsch and Katie Meyers.  Several of their players were unable to make it or maybe just not looking forward to the match up.  All odds were stacked against them heading into the break.

Each league sent their aces to the mound, Andy Ross for the American League and Mike Raber for the National league.  The NL was the visiting team for this years events and struck first blood in the first inning on Tony Pedrolini’s lead off double.  The AL answered back in the bottom of the first with Matt Kirsch’s 1st homer, a two run shot to left.

The NL was unable to match the extra run in their half of the second, before Matt Kirsch hit is second 2-run homer of the game to give the AL a 1-4 lead.   One batter later, Mike Downs took Mike Raber deep to extend the lead to 1-5.

Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the eighth inning when Matt Kirsch hit his third homer of the game, a three run shot to deep left off NL pitcher Brian Meyers.  This shot extended the lead to 1-8.

During the top of the 9th inning, the NL stars pulled together as Kevin Phillips hit a 3-run jack.  A little too late as the American League stars stole away with All-star game.

MVP honors went to Matt Kirsch of the American League.  Matt hit 3 homeruns and drove in 7 of the AL’s 8 runs.
