American League Championship Series Recap |
A very colorful match up of two of the KWL's Classic Franchises featuring rosters bolstered with key veteran players. Joey Brainerd, Andy Ross, Brian Meyers, Daryl Hutson, and Jim Moe have all been around since the KWL's first season and all of them but Ross played in the first KWL Township Series. |

Game 1:
Flyin' Wildebeest 7, Industrials 0 F/6
W: Andy Ross
L: Brian Meyers
HR: Joey Brainerd
The on going story line of the 08' playoffs continued Monday night as two of the KWL's top 3 pitchers faced off in a rock solid pitching match up. The Wildebeest chased the Indies Ace pitcher out of the game in the 3rd inning after capitalizing on some early control problems. They tacked on 4 runs, two on a line drive homerun by none other then 3rd year veteran Joey Brainerd. 08' Cy Wiffle Sir Andy Ross could not be stopped from mound, as he struck out 12 batters in route to his first post season shut out and second post season win against Brian.

Game 2:
Industrials 3, Flyin' Wildebeest 1 F/6
W: Pat Kean
L: Matt Kirsch
SV: Brian Meyers
HR: Brian Meyers
After the stomping received by the Wildebeest herd in Game 1, the Industrials looked to Pat Kean to pull them even at one game a piece. Pat responded by pitching 5 shutout innings, while teammate Brian Meyers hit a 3 run homer in the 3rd inning. The Wildies responded in the 6th, scoring their first run and loading up the bases. But Meyers struck out the last two hitters to shut the door and lock down the win for Kean and Industrials.

Game 3:
Flyin' Wildebeest
1, Industrials 2 F/6
W: Brian Meyers
L: Andy Ross
Looking to redeem himself, Brian opted for a re-match of Game one. The Wildies picked up the first run of the game in the second inning on a couple of costly throwing errors and Ross made it hold up until the bottom of the sixth. During the last frame, Andy started to show signs of fatigue as he gave up a lead off single, followed by a walk and another single to load up the bases. With no outs and the sacks jacked, Pat Kean took 5 straight balls to walk in the tying run. Jim Moe took a first pitch strike before slapping a single down the left field line scoring Brian and winning the game for the Indies.

Game 4:
Industrials 3, Flyin' Wildebeest 5 F/6
W: Matt Kirsch
L: Pat Kean
HR: Matt Kirsch, Andy Ross
After pitching out of a jam in the top of the 1st, Matt Kirsch put the Wildies on the board with a solo homerun to left. Two innings later, the Wildies tacked onto their lead with 4 hits scoring 3 runs. In the top half of the 4th, the Industrials chipped into lead, scoring 2 runs. Their bid for anymore runs was shot down on a great play at the plate by Scudder and Kirsch. Ross added an insurance run in the bottom of the 4th with his first postseason homer. The Industrials put together a rally in the top of the 6th, but Kirsch struck out Meyers with 2 runs on to seal the deal.

Flyin' Wildebeest 10 , Industrials 2 F/6
W: Andy Ross
L: Brian Meyers
HR: Matt Kirsch 3, Don Kern 1
As every odd game has gone this series, Brian faced off against Andy. Brian threw 2 scoreless innings before hitting a foul ball off of his eye ball in the bottom of the 2nd. He would return to the mound in the top of the 3rd, but surrendered 2 runs before exiting after only recording one out. Daryl Hutson came in to finish the game and was tagged for 14 hits and 8 runs over the remaining 3 2/3 innings.
With the win, the Wildies move onto to face the Belly Itchers in the Township Series. |
