2008 Allstar Game Recap

American League AllStars

National League AllStars

With the addition of two more teams in 2008, the Inter-League games were axed.  With no match ups being picked up by any team in the first half, we had no measurement of how the All-star game may pan out.  In 2007, the American League upset the offensive machine of the National League; winning 4-8.

Heading into Saturday's AllStar game each league put together their best available participates to once again battle in a very special 9 inning exhibition game. The NL sporting fashionable Gold shirts, and the AL wearing Black.

The National League has been powering along this season, scoring nearly twice as many runs (324) and hitting nearly twice as many Homeruns (98).  The NL pitching has fell victim to the big hitters and bolsters a 5.65 league ERA; only having four Pitches with ERA's lower then 3.00.

The American League ended up being quite the opposite.  The NL league ERA is 3.73; with seven players with ERA's below 3.00 and 5 pitchers with less then 1.00.  Although the power numbers are lower, the AL boosts a very hardy .332 batting average.

This seasons AllStar game proved to be a battle of a pitching team versus a hitting team.

Tom Mausen and Jim Noel started the game for their respective teams.  The National League got on the board first, with 3 runs in the first. Capped off by a Bryan Jennings RBI Single.

Jim kept the AL quiet, until Adam Nash hit a solo homerun in the top of the Third inning. Bringing the score to 1-3.

In the Fourth inning, the National league tacked on another run on an RBI single by Mike Downs off Cy Wiffle hopeful Adam Nash.

Evan Visuri of the NL pitched 3 scoreless innings and struck out eight as the score remained 1-4. In the bottom of the 7th inning Mike Downs hit a solo homer of Pat Kean to extend the score to 1-5.

Mike Raber took the hill for the remaining three innings for the NL and did not give up any runs until Adam Nash notched his second homer of the game in the top of the ninth.

After stranding 15 runners on base, the American league could not over come their first inning. The final score was 2-5 in favor of the National League.

For the First time ever, the Kalamazoo Wiffleball League incorporated a charity into the AllStar Saturday. We collect $554 for Big Brothers Big Sisters! Kudos!
