Homerun Derby 2007 Recap |
|
The hitting lineup for the Homerun Derby was so uncertain this season, we actually added two players the day of the contest; Pat Burnell and Evan Visuri. The biggest twist to this years contest was the addition of Sponsored kids. Each hitter sponsored a local child and the winner and runner up would win their respective kids game packages to the Grand Rapids White Caps and Kalamazoo Kings. |
 |
Also for the first time we allowed the top 5 hitters to carry onto the second round. After the dust settled from the first round, last years derby champ had a 3 homer lead on the second place hitters. Advancing to the second round were; Bryan Jennings (10), Adam Bontrager (7), Evan Visuri (7), Pat Burnell (4) and Brian Meyers (3). |
Adam Bontrager lead the way in the second round, smacking 6 more for a total of 13 Homers. Bryan hit 3 more for a total of 10, thus eliminating Evan who sat at 12 total. At the end of the second round, Brian, Pat, and Evan's chance for the Derby Championship was over. |

With both hitters tied at 13 homeruns a piece, the tie breaker was determined by the season homerun totals. Jennings with 12 and Bontrager with 10, left Adam to lead off the final round of the 2008 Derby.
Adam siezed the oppertunity to hit first, taking 5 balls long in the final round. Bryan left off the final round and hit 3 homeruns with 4 only outs, but struggled for the remainder of the round and finished with 4 homers.

Adam's Five Jacks in the final around stood up and left him alone on top of the Homerun Derby for 2008..
Three straight years the Derby has ending being seperated by only 1 homerun. As always, living up to the hype and leaving everyone with a happy face!
Congratulation to the 2008 Derby Champion, Adam Bontrager.
