Manning Up; The tale of six StoneCutters.

The lowest winning percentage in KWL history,  .049 +  The Lowest team batting average in KWL history, .203 = The most stand up team in the history of the KWL! This past season, the StoneCutters, an all rookie expansion won their first game of the season on opening day, but never managed to put a W in that column the rest of the season; as they finished with a 1-20 record and last in the National League.

In late winter of 2008, a very excited Rob Dykehouse signed up his new squad to embark on their first KWL season.  They showed up to every spring training game, scheduled practice games on the side, all in hopes having a successful first season.  When you look at this team on paper, many would say that they missed their goal, but they would be wrong!

The StoneCutters showed up to every single regular season game and also picked up and played an extra game along the way.  They never were late, they never were rude and they set a great example for us all.  In the 2007 season, the league experienced a full team quitting, and more forfeits then you could count on two hands.  Even a team that was in the playoff chase until the second to last week of the season, failed to make a final appearance once they were eliminated.  No one enjoys showing up to wiffleball only to find out the team was not going to play and that is what this team did for the league. They made a commitment to play and they did just that. Week in and week out, we were able to rely on them to play their games.

They continued to play in a season that meant nothing more just being known as good folk. While many teams bickered and fought about losing a couple of games during their season, this team took their lumps and continued to stand tall in the midst of losing 19 straight games.  On the final week, this team did nothing but express their excitement for next season and by showing up, playing the game and not being jerks have quarantined them team a slot for next season.

Regardless of this teams record, other teams in this league have expressed their respect for a team that had such tough luck. Not a single team considered their schedule match up with the StoneCutters as Wins and many times had to battle to win. Seven times this cellar dwelling team kept the game with 1 run and only were mercied 3 times.

Despite the teams record, they made a HUGE positive impact in this league and have in the process issued a challenge to all teams that participate in this league; Man Up and Show Up regardless of how your season record works out!

Thank you StoneCutters for being men of your word and showing up all season long. I look forward to your 09' campaign and will have a case of beer for you on opening day (and a rocket pop for Whitney)!
