Game 1,2,3,4,5 8/6/09
National League Championship Series Recap
The 2009 Belly Itchers set a regular season record with 21 wins. After locking up the division title in week 10, they have been preparing to match up with the one thorn that has been pooking in their side all season long; The Monday Night 40s. The 40s are responsible for two of the 3 Itcher loses from the regular season and very possibly could have won the other two, it two very close battles.

VS.

Game 1:
Monday Night 40's 0, Belly Itchers 1 F/6
W: AJ Tate
L: Mason Everett

The first night of the NLCS was a windy affair with Mother Nature blowing 20 mph gusts inward all evening. Pitchers’ duels were expected and delivered. Belly Itchers’ ace and birthday boy A.J. Tate stayed true to form, throwing a 1-0 shutout with 13 Ks for the win. 40s pitcher Mason Everett had dominating stuff as well, striking out 6, but an opposite field base hit by Eric VonVorst was the only RBI the Itchers needed.

Birthday Boy AJ tosses 6 scoreless with 13k's.

Game 2:
Belly Itchers 3, Monday Night 40s 5 F/6
W: Steve Everett
L: Adam Bontrager
2B: Josh Whitfield, AJ Tate

The NL ’s two top MVP vote getters took the mound in Game 2. Itchers Adam Bontrager struggled finding the board early in the game but found his mark once he harnessed the wind. Behind a very balanced offensive attack from the 40s, Steve Everett cruised from the mound helping to lead the Cuarentas de Lunes Noche to a 5-3 victory.

Steve ties the series at 1-1 with his own gem.

Game 3:
Monday Night 40s 6, Belly Itchers 10 F/6
W: Mike Downs
L: Chad Meints
HR: Mike Downs 2

Game 3 of the NLCS looked as if it was going to be an offensive explosion early on as both teams put up multiple runs in the first inning. But it was Mike Downs that took control of the game at the dish and on the mound. Downs hit two home runs and pitched his way out of multiple jams to remain undefeated on the hill this season. The 40s looked strong early, but poor defense and lack of key hits got the best of them this game.

Back by offense, Downs remains unbeaten in 2009.

Game 4:
Belly Itchers 5, Monday Night 40s 0 F/6
W: AJ Tate
L: Mason Everett

A.J. Tate. That's all that really needs to be said about Game 4. Tate has always been known for his strong postseason pitching, and he was finally able to get his record against the 40s back to .500- In two games far more important than the regular season battles these two teams had. The man lived up to the myth as he mowed down 40s all night long, striking out 16 and giving up only two hits.

Belly Itchers vs. 40s rivalry to be continued...
