2011 FunStar Game Recap. 6/27/2011 |
|
After 3 seasons, the FunStar game was screaming for a new format and in 2011, that’s just what it got! The focus of this year’s FunStar game shifted from constant one-upsmanship back to the game itself, making a much more enjoyable game for all the friends and family following along!
A nearly 3’ round strikezone was introduced and also incorporated a “Batter’s Decision” spinning wheel that decided the fate of each at bat. Topping the strikezone was the “Prihoda Sucker Punch” boxing glove, if hit, ended the entire inning for the batting team!
The first two innings went scoreless as several hitters had the opportunity to hit with the “Mega-Bat”, which although huge in stature produced little to no bat speed and only weak ground balls. Several batter’s experienced the “You’re Out!” spun number, giving

everyone else laughter as they hung their head and headed back to the dugout without a chance to hit.
Hitting from his knee’s, Dan Hebner got the NL on the board first when he hit a Homerun to left. The hit brought everyone, including Hebner, to their feet! But Hebner wasn’t done there as he followed up the bottom half of the inning by becoming the first pitcher to “Sucker Punch” the hitting team, as all of the FunStars charged the field to exchange high fives.
Despite the obvious momentum shift from Hebner’s big plays, the American league stormed back to tie the game on a solo homerun from a skirt wearing Matt Jennings. The American league Funstars were not done there, Katie Meyers would put the AL team ahead when she spun for an “All-star Hitter”, followed by a hilariously humongous homerun off the bat of Bryan Jennings.

With the AL leading 2-1, Eric Grimm would come up big about 10 minutes before the time limit would end the game. With a spin landing him on the “Choose your own pitcher”, he selected 5 Dollar Pitcher teammate Dan Hebner and the black bat. With all the advantages on his side, Grimm hit a 3-run bomb over the press box and sealed the victory for the National League FunStars.
The game saw several firsts, including 2 “Mom hitters” that managed to both secure base hits in their respective at bats.
Dan Hebner received this year’s FunVP award, securing the highly coveted Barry Manilow’s greatest hits album.
