NLDS Recap. HIT vs. BEL

After the summer slipped by, the KWL playoffs were set to get underway. For the second straight season, Scared Hitless was involved in another "Play-In" scenario. But fortunately for Hitless, they were able to win the 29th game and secure a spot in the 2011 playoffs. Unfortunately, their reward would be to face off with the #1 team in the league, the 23-5 Belly Itchers!

Game 1:
Scared Hitless 2, Belly Itchers 0 F/6 Box
W: Adam Kuzmin
L: Eric Yoder
HR: Mark Thomson

Yoder and Kuzmin hooked up in a scoreless duel through the first 4 innings. Then, in the top of the 5th, Mark Thomson hit the first pitch of his at bat to the opposite field getting up and over the 6’ mini monster. The homer chased in Brian Lewis and gave Scared Hitless the 2-0 lead. Doing what he has done throughout the entire season, Kuzmin would closes out the 6th inning on the mound to secure the first playoff win for the Hitless franchise, and put the Itchers only one game short of elimination. Adam threw a 1-hit shutout and struke out all 18 outs!

Hitless celebrates Mark's oppo 2-run homerun.

Game 2:
Belly Itchers 5 , Scared Hitless 0 F/6 Box
W: Adam Vanvorst
L: David Ayres

After allowing a lead-off single to Brian Lewis, Adam Vanvorst would dominate by retiring the next 18 batters, while fanning 16 of them! Dave Ayres would step in an throw a solid game but the Belly Itchers hitting and base running prowess proves deadly as they score 5 runs on just 5 hits and 4 walks without hitting a single homerun!  The win would even up the series to force a series deciding Game 3.

Adam retires 18 straight to secure the game 2 win.

Game 3:
Scared Hitless 0 , Belly Itchers 2 F/6 Box
W: Robby Allen
L: Brian Lewis

Scared Hitless is forced to hit against another dominating pitcher in Robby Allen. Brian Lewis takes the rubber on the other side, trying to eliminate the 3 time champion Belly Itchers. Lewis struggles in the first inning allowing a hit and two walks, and gets a grounder that should end the inning, but an untimely error by Adam Kuzmin allows 2 runs to score. That's all Robby Allen and the Belly Itchers would need, as Scared Hitless nearly was scared hitless against a pitching dominate Belly Itchers.

AJ 's aggressive baserunning leads to a run.

The Belly Itchers showed their ability to manufacture runs in this 3-game series, which lead to scoring 9 runs without a single long ball.  Their march back to the Township Series now moves on to face the Kentucky Waterfalls in the NLCS. The games begin Thursday August 11th.
