For the second straight season, Adam Kuzmin had the honors of starting the Allstar game for the NL, while the AL combated with Zac Adams, who was making his first Allstar appearance as a pitcher!
Kuzmin lived up to his reputation and made short work of the AL allstar lineup for the first three innings, striking out 7 without giving up a single hit. Zac was also spot on, before running into some control issues in the 3rd, walking 4 hitters and giving the NL a 1-0 lead.
Not wanting to risk anymore easy runs, Zac was pulled with two down in the 3rd. Mike Hogan inherited an infield full of runners, but struck out Kevin Marszalek to escape the 3rd without any more damage.
During the top half of the 5th, Matt Schave issued a leadoff walk to Brian Meyers, which was followed one batter later by a 2-run jack to right by Conor Barr. The 2-run homer gave the AL allstars a 2-1 lead with 4 innings to play.
Mike Hogan was masterful on the mound as he worked through his three innings of work. Pounding the corners of the board, he struck out 7 without giving up any hits or walks. Next out of the pen was second year standout, Cory Schug.
Schug came out throwing bullets and quickly proved why his name has been a stronghold on the AL league leaders! Line 'em up and set 'em down, Cory mowed through the NL lineup, striking out 6 straight hitters and finishing with 7 total for the game.
With a 2-1 lead in the top of the 8th, Conor and Marcus would get things going again with back-to-back singles, followed by a laser beam double off the bat of Bryan Jennings.
